Gmail

I joined Gmail my senior year of college when it was still in its Beta phase, when you still actually had to be invited to create an account. Psh! Whatever! It's just e-mail I thought, as I eagerly wrote e-mails via Yahoo! and my college's e-mail server lovingly called Squirrel Mail. I joined Gmail because everybody was doing it and I wanted to join this secretive e-mail cult where you were able to create addresses with dots. For example: John.Sexy@gmail or Igavemysoul.away@gmail or I.rule@gmail.

Luckily I joined Gmail, because I never looked back! Where else can I now secretly g-chat with friends while I am at work pretending to be busy typing up my report using Google Docs? Where else can I have simple access to my calender and blog??? Where else can I find this information: You are currently using 478 MB (7%) of your 6635 MB? NOWHERE. I am a true Gmail fan. I might even <3 Gmail.

Yahoo! is trying to win me back with their new and improved features and their slightly Gmail-ish interface. You know what they say, imitation is the highest form of flattery. I'll keep my Yahoo! account for now, if only for kicks.

Gmail even has their own blog!!!

Thanks to their Moscow Gmail team, I present this little gem:

The Silver Lining

Sorry for the lack of updates this past week! I was once again stricken with the flu/strep throat/bronchitis and it didn't help that I still went out to play and to work. After 3 days on a liquid and popsicle diet, and getting 8 hours of sleep for the past 5 nights, I think I am somewhat recovered. I've spent the last few nights at home catching up on television, reading up on Paris, and rejoicing over the fact that I have my voice back.

Tonight, I am going to a Rilo Kiley concert at a really awful venue, The Concourse at the S.F. Design Center. Wish me luck! I leave you with a little afternoon treat:

Be on the look out for more updates soon!!!

Outside Lands Music & Art Festival

The only option right now is to buy a 3-day ticket which costs $225.50 + $25.50 for convenience fees + $18.50 to Fed-Ex the ticket (the only option, wtf?) = $269.50 = $90 a day!

SERIOUSLY???

Who's still going to the Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival???

Comme des Garçons for H&M

I learned this morning that Comme des Garçons/Rei Kawakubo will be the next guest designer for H&M!!! The capsule collection will launch exclusively at H&M Tokyo in November and then roll out worldwide within a few days. The range will include pieces for men, women, and children; accessories, and a new unisex fragrance. The avant-garde designer Rei Kawakubo will follow in the footsteps of previous guest designers Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, Viktor & Rolf, and Roberto Cavalli.

I am curious as to how this collection will do seeing that Comme des Garçons is a more obscure/fashiony brand. How will Comme des Garçons translate their designs into something that H&M will be willing to sell and that the average shopper might appreciate? I, personally want Comme des Garçons to bring on the crazy! This is about a million times better than Cavalli and about a trillion times better than the Madonna collection for H&M. Come on kids, say no to cheesy animal prints and track suits!

Some looks from the Fall '08 (first three) and Spring '08 Collections:

JUSTICE concert recap

Don't worry. I didn't forget about the Justice concert I promised to blog about. Gather around because here it is!

Last Thursday I went to the Justice/Diplo/Fancy concert held at The Concourse at the San Francisco Design Center. Let's begin with the fact that I had a particularly long day at work and I really wasn't in the mood to stand through a 3 hour concert. Oh, and did I mention I was still sick? Needless to say, the tickets were bought in January and I wasn't gonna waste them just because I was tired and wanted to watch TV in my jammies.

I actually had never been to this venue before so I had no idea what to expect. That didn't mean I was gonna get there early to scope out the prime standing spots. Oh hell naw. When I got there with a couple friends in tow, it was a sight to be seen! Basically, The Concourse is a big gigantic hall with an elevated "balcony" section on either side of the stage. It was a long enough of a hall where if I decided to sprint from one end to the other, I would probably get winded and ask for an ICEE. There was fake smoke everywhere, glow sticks (wtf?), ravers, and myspacers! I never got into the rave culture back in high school so I assumed this is what it was like. LUCKILY, I was carrying some E that I saved from the late 90s just for this moment; I knew rave culture would be back! It only took a decade. Just kidding.

We got there a bit late so we missed out on Fancy but Diplo soon came on stage. We managed to push ourselves towards the front but soon retreated to the sidelines halfway through his set. We ran into some familiar faces and friends that night and quite a few hardcore ravers... some who were even doing cardio stretches before jumping back into the pit. Scary indeed!

I had an excellent view of the Justice set because I was able to sneak past a few security guards to get towards the front. By that point, it was pretty hot and sweaty in the concourse. Every few seconds, I felt a sprinkling of sweat on my face and clothes and tried to figure out just who it was that was giving me a free shower. Then my friend noticed it was actually condensation that was coming down from the ceiling. GROSS. Collective sweat! Other than that, Justice was amazing and really great performers. And cute, too.

Despite being sick and tired, I danced my little heart out.

Things I learned:
1. Rave culture is back or trying really hard to make a comeback.
2. Don't get security guards angry. They will tackle you to the floor and blind you with their mini flashlights.
3. Don't be dumb and try to climb the rafters to get a better view of the stage.
4. All the cute fashionable boys and girls come out to play for Justice but they are nowhere to be found on any other night of the week or year.
5. I <3 Justice & giant glowing crosses.
